
TemperChi Glass Art Studio is currently offering beginning glass torch-working classes (sometimes called lampworking or beadmaking) in soft (coe 104), glass. COE refers to a Coefficient Of Expansion pertaining to certain types of glass.
We provide all the tools, equipment and glass necessary. These classes are fun and informative. We will show you proper set-up and safety procedures in addition to beginning, intermediate and advanced techniques of shaping molten glass into works of art, a process which consists of welding and tempering glass using torches and kilns.
Open studio time is now available to past students and those with prior lampworking experience. All equipment provided. Please contact us for pricing and open time slots.Beginning/Intermediate Lampworking/Borosilicate is a two-day (10 hour) workshops are currently held weekends from 10am to 4pm. Topics covered include setup and safety, forming and shaping beads/pendants, various decorating techniques, glass selection and properties, temperature control, and annealing. Prerequisite: None.
Intermediate/Advanced Lampworking picks up where Beginning/Intermediate Lampworking leaves off. Like the beginner class, this is a two-day (10 hour) workshop held weekends from 10am to 4pm. Topics covered include more advances shaping and decorating techniques, clearcoating, and forming hollow beads. Prerequisite: Beginning/Intermediate Lampworking or prior lampworking experience.
Sculptures & Figures is a four-week long course held Tuesday evenings from 6-8:30. Students are also given 5 hours of studio time between classes where they can come in and practice the techniques learned in the previous class. Although taking studio time isn't mandatory, it is strongly encouraged to ensure a mastery of the techniques prior to the next class. Each week's class will cover a different set of sculptures or figures (animals, holiday themes, flowers, etc). Topics include the introduction of shaping tools, pulling stringers and canes, and a torching with a strong emphasis on temperature control. Prerequisite: Beginning/Intermediate Lampworking or prior lampworking experience.
